Concrete Cleaning: Remove Oil Stains Without Breaking Your Back
Oil stains on your driveway or parking lot can be an eyesore. Accidents happen but that doesn’t mean you should be left with a black stain on an otherwise clean surface. Whether it’s motor oil, gasoline, grease, or hydraulic, brake or radiator fluid, with a little time and effort you can make those stains disappear.
DIY Concrete Cleaning: Option 1
Bio-remediation is one of the most effective methods for getting rid of those hard to clean oil-based stains. Bio-remediates, such as Terminator-HSD concrete cleaner, consist of hydrocarbon dissolving bacteria that break down the oil and leave behind water and carbon dioxide. Made without harsh chemicals, detergents or acids, bio-remediation is safe for you, your animals, and surrounding vegetation. Available in a powder, just pour it onto the stain, mist it with a spray bottle, and let it set, then work on the stain. Check back every few days to see the progress and add more powder as necessary in accordance with the product’s directions. This process could take a couple weeks and a few applications but the results speak for themselves.
DIY Concrete Cleaning: Option 2
If time is a factor and you need immediate results, there are faster methods to rid yourself of concrete stains but be prepared to use a little elbow grease. Using VERY hot water on the stain helps to bring set-in stains to the surface of the concrete. After the stain is brought to the surface you’ll want to use a concrete cleaning agent with degreasing properties such as ZEP Concrete cleaner and degreaser. Pour the degreasing cleaner onto the stain and let it sit for around 10 minutes. Rinse or vacuum the stain and check your progress. If the stain is still present, repeat the process until it has been removed.
