How To Maintain New Concrete In Winter
Winter is just around the corner. Winter weather can be very damaging to your concrete driveway, especially if the driveway is relatively new. Here are some things you can do to protect and properly maintain your concrete driveway:
- Avoid using deicing agents: Whether a driveway is new or old, deicing agents are not good for your driveway. Deicing agents contain chemicals that help to melt ice, but also damage your driveway.
- Be careful when shoveling snow: Sometimes snow can be heavy which can cause you to shovel hard and chip away at your driveway. To avoid this from happening, make sure you use a shovel with a rubber or vinyl-edge.
- Reroute your home’s drainage downspouts: Moving your home’s drainage downspouts helps to prevent excess water from getting on your driveway. Move your downspouts to the point where water will drain at least 5 feet away from your driveway.
