Spalling is the peeling away of cement paste of the surface portion of the driveway. Spalling usually occurs in cold climate areas during winter through a freeze-thaw cycle. Snow and ice melts and turns into a pool of water. That water can then refreeze which causes it to expand and put pressure on the driveway and causes it to crack and peel. You can use a concrete overlay to repair the spalling.
